This is a review of techniques for digital restoration ofimages.Opticalandotheranalogprocessorsarenotdiscussed.Restoration is considered from the point of view of space-domain aswell as of spatial-frequency-domaindescriptions of images. Consid-eration is restricted to degradations arising fromnoise and spatiallyinvariantblurring.However, many of the space-domain methodsapply, with minor modifications, to spatially varying blur as well.Some examples of restoration are included to illustrate the methodsdiscussed. Included also is a section on methods whose potentialhasnot yet beenexploited for image restoration.
